We're currently looking for a new Social Media Coordinator, Outreach Coordinator, and more Officers for the ASL Club! If you are interested in taking on any of the positions available, please either fill out this form OR email us directly at aslc@uw.edu.

 

ASL Club Social Media Coordinator:
 

Position Overview:

  • Manage the ASL Club social media accounts, website, and newsletter, while actively doing design and branding work through those channels.

  • Connect with current and prospective club members through creatively utilizing the ASL Club social media accounts.

  • ASL Club Social Media Coordinator must have fair signing skills, experience with social media management, and a commitment to supporting Deaf culture and the Deaf community. 


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist in planning and conducting Club meetings (bi-weekly).

  • Update the Club website at the beginning of the year with new Officers information, and update the ‘announcements’ and ‘events’ sections whenever possible.

  • Maintaining and updating the ASL Club’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) with announcements, events, relevant news, etc.

  • Send out a monthly ASL Club newsletter with club updates, volunteer opportunities, events, etc. though Mailchimp.
    Come up with a creative strategy for gaining more followers on social media and more subscribers for the newsletter.

  • Create and utilize graphics for ASL Club events and other various announcements.

Preferred (but not exactly required) Qualifications:

  • Has roughly 3-5 hours to spare and dedicate to the club per week.

  • Has some prior knowledge of American Sign Language (or any signed language) or is currently taking or has taken ANY ASL class.

  • Preferred-but-absolutely-will-not-be-held-against-you: Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or CODA individual (someone with lived experience and strong ties to the Deaf community and Deaf culture).

ASL Club Outreach Coordinator:

Position Overview:

Plan events, interest sessions, and come up with a creative strategy to spread the word about ASL Club. The Outreach Coordinator must have good signing skills, excellent communication abilities, comfortability with reaching out to new people and organizations, and a commitment to supporting Deaf culture and the Deaf community. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist with planning and conducting ASL Club meetings (Bi-weekly)

  • Maintain and update an ongoing ‘volunteer opportunities’ document for ASL students in the Seattle area

  • Plan and conduct collaboration events with external entities to help spread the word about ASL Club and get new people involved.

  • Plan and conduct interest session(s) in the beginning of each year to encourage people to attend ASL Club meetings.

Preferred (but not exactly required) Qualifications:

  • Has roughly 3-5 hours to spare and dedicate to the club per week.

  • Has some prior knowledge of American Sign Language (or any signed language) or is currently taking or has taken ANY ASL class.

  • Preferred-but-absolutely-will-not-be-held-against-you: Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or CODA individual (someone with lived experience and strong ties to the Deaf community and Deaf culture).

 ASL Club Officer:

Position Overview:

Attends at minimum two or three meetings during the quarter to help the President and other officers run the meeting along with any and all events, officer meetings, fundraisers, etc. Also is responsible for assisting the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Outreach Coordinator, and Social Media Coordinator with their weekly tasks (trust me, you'll never run out of things to do and possibilities to create something).

Expect to spend no more than 3-5 hours a week at minimum (there is plenty of work to be done if you want to go above and beyond!).

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Attend Officer meetings (bi-weekly) 

  • Attend and assist in conducting two or three weekly club meetings a quarter.

  • Attend and assist in conducting events, fundraisers, etc during the quarter.

  • Helping the President, Vice President, Treasurer, Outreach Coordinator, and/or Social Media Coordinator with tasks that they can't get to.

 

Preferred (but not exactly required) Qualifications:

  • Has roughly 3-5 hours to spare and dedicate to the club per week.

UW ASL Club

 

We are the University of Washington's American Sign Language (ASL) Club. We bring Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing students together by communicating in ASL, learning about Deaf culture and supporting Deaf communities.
